Tom and the amazing rhododendrons

Saturday was Tom’s birthday; we were in Palmerston North for the weekend to see the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (fantastic) on Friday night so took the opportunity the next day to go to the Kimbolton Country Fair.

The country fair, which was in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by picturesque Manawatu scenery, was held at Cross Hills Gardens and Nursery. Essentially, imagine that 40 years ago you decided to plan and then plant a mighty giant garden of rhodedenrons and azaleas and you’d have Cross Hills.

After the fair wander (buying pickles, lemoncello and coconut ice for Matthew) we (Tom, me and his Mum) ate baked potatoes and drank elderflower cordial in the sun then wandered around and around the gardens baking in the sun…
